ST JOE STATE PARK

In 1976 St Joe Minerals Corp. donated this 8,238 acre former lead mine to the state of Missouri, making this Missouri’s third largest state park.

St.JoeState Park has designated 2,000 acres of riding area for off-road (ORV) use. Permitted vehicles include: motorcycles, all terrain vehicles (ATVs), dune buggies and four-wheel drive vehicles. Dune buggies and four-wheel drives are only allowed use of the sand flats and must stay off the wooded trails.  Helmets, orange flags and spark arresters are required equipment and the park imposes a noise limit not to exceed 86 DBA.

The trails wind through 1,200 acres of wooded hillsides and 800 acres of sand flats, or tailings, left by the remains of the lead mining process that ended here in 1972.  The groomed trails are numbered and map stations are dispersed throughout the park creating a useful navigation system.  The complimentary ORV rinse bays, located by the staging area, are a great way to knock the dust off after an enjoyable day of riding at St.JoeState Park.

A $5 daily fee is required for each off road vehicle. The off-road riding area is open during the following times:

For those of you who want to combine camping with your off-road adventures, this park offers exceptional facilities.  Campground #1, for ORV camping only, boasts 45 electric and 35 basic camp sites, as well as, private hot showers, toilets, laundry room, dump station, recycling center, woodlot, swimming, bicycling and a park for the kids to play.  For convenience, a trail, for ORV use, provides access from the campground to the park office and ORV riding areas.
